Tutoring in Rushcutters Bay

Built around your child, not a worksheet pack.

LearnIt is a one-on-one tutoring practice for Rushcutters Bay families, from the first years of primary through to Year 12 and the full IB Diploma. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, someone who learns how they think and where the marks are actually going, across maths and English from Standard to Extension 2, all sciences including Physics, Chemistry and Biology, languages including Japanese, Latin, French and Spanish, Economics, Business Studies, Legal Studies and Modern History. Parents receive feedback from your tutor after every session, and every student gets the LearnIt learning app free, with practice set by their tutor, progress tracking and a live parent dashboard.

Rushcutters Bay is a small suburb that does much of its living outdoors: the Moreton Bay figs and playing fields of Rushcutters Bay Park, the dog walkers along the sea wall at dusk, and the masts of the Cruising Yacht Club, where the Sydney to Hobart fleet gathers each Boxing Day. It is also the rare Eastern Suburbs pocket that runs on trains rather than cars, with Edgecliff and Kings Cross stations both a walk up the hill, and it is divided between two councils, City of Sydney on one side of the valley and Woollahra on the other. That division shows up every morning in the school run, because children from the same block head west to SCEGGS Darlinghurst, St Vincent's College and Darlinghurst Public, or east up New South Head Road towards Ascham, the Sydney Grammar preparatory school at Edgecliff and the schools beyond in Bellevue Hill. Most homes here are apartments, which is why the question we hear most often from local parents is not about the syllabus at all: it is where a Year 9 student is meant to work properly when the dining table is also the study.

We cover Rushcutters Bay Park, Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, New Beach Road and the streets around them.

How lessons work

Three ways to learn in Rushcutters Bay.

Tutors travel to homes right across Rushcutters Bay, from the blocks on New Beach Road and the streets around the park up towards Bayswater Road, and they are used to apartment buildings, visitor parking and the intercom that never quite works. If home is too busy or too small for real concentration, the Double Bay study centre is about seven minutes east along New South Head Road, with a quiet, purpose built room instead of a shared table. Online lessons run on the same structure with a shared workspace, which covers travel weeks, sailing seasons and the evening when nobody has another trip left in them.

In your home

Your tutor comes to you, so there is no drive and no parking, and your child works in the space they already study in. It suits primary students and busy weeknights particularly well.

At our Double Bay centre

A quiet, purpose built room away from the distractions of home. Senior students and exam blocks tend to work best here, and parents often use the time for the school run.

Most homes here are apartments, and the study centre is a short run along New South Head Road.

Online

Live one on one over video with a shared workspace, so the tutor and student write on the same page. Ideal for sport seasons, travel weeks, and the day someone wakes up unwell.

Jordan has been a fantastic tutor for my boys. He's committed, reliable, and really great with them. My boys are more confident in their subjects and actually enjoy their sessions too. Highly recommend!

Fabulous tutoring experience for 3 grandchildren. They actually enjoy their session and their excellent maths results reflect this, and the skill of their tutor.

Common questions

Rushcutters Bay parents often ask

Almost always, yes. Most of our Rushcutters Bay lessons happen at a dining or kitchen table, and our tutors work in apartments constantly, so a compact space is not a problem provided the television is off and the room is reasonably quiet. If a sibling is home, or your child simply settles better away from the family, the Double Bay study centre is about seven minutes away and gives them a room to themselves for the hour. Plenty of families alternate between the two depending on the week.

Yes. Rushcutters Bay children scatter both ways, west to SCEGGS Darlinghurst, St Vincent's College and Darlinghurst Public, and east to Ascham, the Sydney Grammar preparatory school at Edgecliff, Cranbrook, Double Bay Public and Rose Bay Secondary College. Whether your child is at one of those or somewhere else entirely, we tutor to their syllabus and their assessment calendar. That includes both senior pathways: the HSC from Standard through to Extension 2, and the full IB Diploma, which matters for families who have arrived here partway through a course.

It usually does. Twilight races and the build up to Boxing Day collide with Term 4 for a lot of families here, so we move the lesson rather than lose it. The same tutor can teach online from wherever your child is, weekend mornings are available, and you can cancel up to nine hours beforehand at no charge. There is no lock-in contract, so a busier season is simply a lighter term.

The simplest place to start is a single lesson, at your own table, online, or in a quiet room a few minutes down New South Head Road.

There is no contract and no joining fee, and we will come back to you within 24 hours with a matched tutor.
